CARES Act Need-Based Programs (Application)

Tlingit & Haida is pleased to offer two Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act need-based programs for tribal citizen households impacted by the Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. The first program (Family Education & Retraining Expenses) assists families with education and retraining expenses due to impacts from the pandemic. The second program (Family Home & Utility Expenses) supports families financially impacted by COVID-19 with support for eligible housing and utility expenses.

It is important to note that this support is not a per-capita distribution.

Family Education & Retraining Expenses

This is a one-time, needs-based program that supports households with unexpected education and related expenses. All tribal citizen households are eligible to receive support from this program.

The Family Education & Retraining Expenses program offsets some of the expenses our households are facing due to at-home schooling, retraining because of loss or diminishment of employment, and new education required as a response to COVID-19. The program provides a one-time $500 per household payment for need-based financial assistance with education and information technology costs.

  • Offers households needing financial assistance with partial college and/or vocational education reimbursement.  These funds will provide partial, temporary support for displaced individuals needing retraining with College or Vocational Technical courses.
  • Supports education through information technology.  Offer partial funding for information technology needs in the home such as internet and computer hardware for students having to participate in schooling from home.

The Family Home & Utility Expenses program offsets some of the expenses our households are facing for rent, mortgage, and utility expenses.

The program provides a one-time $500 per household payment for need-based financial assistance with home and utility expenses.

  • Eligible expenses for impacted citizens can be utilities such as electricity, water, fuel, sewer, and garbage expenses.
