Tribal Governance

The Self-Governance program administers the Compact which enables tribes to redesign programs, activities, functions, and services of the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA); to reallocate funds from such programs, activities and functions or service according to the tribal priorities; to enhance the effectiveness and long term financial stability of its tribal government.

Tlingit & Haida provides technical assistance and training opportunities to help tribal governments and programs to conduct elections and find additional resources to upgrade their administrative capability. Training is available that will help Tlingit & Haida staff, tribal government councils and staff successfully perform their respective duties.
