Johnson O'Malley (JOM)

The Johnson O'Malley program provides supplemental educational opportunities and advocacy for Alaska Native and American Indian students from three years of age through grade 12, in the Juneau, Haines, and Wrangell public school systems.

The program is guided by local parent committees and emphasizes tutorial and cultural enrichment activities.

Goals

To seek involvement with National/State Native organizations and legislation affecting budgets and policy in Indian Education. To promote pride in Native heritage, maximize student retention in schools, utilize community resources in advocating for Native issues, promote Native teacher hire, and provide opportunities for Native students to strengthen/develop skills of leadership.
